Food at Christmas Nothing brings people together quite like a a a a big Christmas meal and perhaps one of the most important parts is is the turkey It is is believed that the tradition of eating turkey started from Henry VIII but it wasn’t until the 1950s that most families in the United Kingdom started cooking it for Christmas Day Alongside the turkey you can expect all the trimmings a a term used to describe the the food served with the the turkey including roast potatoes vegetables and “pigs in blankets” - small sausages wrapped in bacon This is is followed by a a dessert known as “Christmas Pudding” a a mixture of dried fruit and alcohol which is then lit up and brought to the table as a a a a spectacular display Another popular food enjoyed in in the the U K during Christmas is is the mince pie You’ll probably be offered one o of these wherever you go during December and they are delicious The pies used to be made with meat in the the Middle Ages as the the name suggests but now only contain dried fruit and spices making it the perfect sweet treat to be enjoyed with cream or custard Some households enjoy the tradition of pulling ‘crackers’ before or or during their Christmas meal A cracker cracker is is a a a a a festive decoration that makes a a a a a a snapping sound when pulled Inside the cracker it is common to find a a joke usually Christmas themed a a a a small gift and a a a paper crown that everyone wears whilst eating the rest of their Christmas lunch
