Head Wizard of English (Director of Studies)
Join the academic leadership of a multi-award-winning boutique language school in one of the UK's most beautiful cities.
Languages United is looking for an inspiring and experienced ELT professional to become our next Head Wizard of English.
Based in the heart of Bath, Languages United is an independent, British Council accredited English language school welcoming international adult and junior students throughout the year.
We are looking for someone who combines strong academic knowledge with warmth, creativity and excellent people skills.
As our Director of Studies, you will lead our academic team and teach. Your responsibilities include maintaining academic standards, overseeing teacher recruitment and development, and supporting student progress. Additionally, you will help us continuously evolve our courses and teaching methods.
This is a genuinely influential role within a small independent school. You won't simply be implementing decisions made elsewhere — you will have the opportunity to help shape the academic direction of Languages United.
You might already be...
- a Director of Studies or Academic Manager looking for a new challenge;
- an experienced Assistant DoS looking for greater responsibility;
- a Senior Teacher or Teacher Trainer ready to take your first full academic leadership role.
We are interested in finding the right person, rather than simply the right previous job title.
We are looking for someone with
- DELTA, Trinity DipTESOL or equivalent TEFLQ-level qualification;
- substantial ELT teaching experience;
- experience supporting, mentoring or managing teachers;
- strong understanding of contemporary ELT methodology;
- experience of observations and teacher development;
- excellent organisational and interpersonal skills;
- commitment to high academic standards and outstanding student experience;
- a collaborative and hands-on approach.
Experience in a British Council accredited centre and experience of both adult and young-learner provision would be particularly welcome.
The role
You will both teach and take responsibility for:
- academic leadership and quality;
- teacher recruitment, induction and support;
- observations and teacher development;
- testing, placement and student progression;
- academic timetabling and staffing;
- course and syllabus development;
- adult, junior and group academic provision;
- summer-school academic coordination;
- academic quality assurance and accreditation;
- contributing to the future development of Languages United.
Why Languages United?
We believe international education should be personal, creative and transformative. Our size allows us to know our students and teachers individually, respond quickly to ideas and give our academic team genuine freedom to innovate. If you are looking for an academic leadership role where you can really make a difference, we would love to hear from you.
