Languages United is an accredited member of Green Standard Schools and we are committed to reducing the school's impact on the environment. We mainly provide homestay accommodation, where our international students stay with a host in Bath. One way of reducing our carbon footprint, and to help hosts reduce costs, is to provide advice on reducing household energy consumption and thereby reducing energy bills.
This year we invested in Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE), a local community business which puts people at the heart of the energy transition to zero carbon. They build renewable energy generating projects such as rooftop solar schemes for community buildings including schools. Partnering with BWCE, we arranged a presentation for hosts to give them advice on "Reducing your energy bills".
The presentation included:
• Introduction
• Where does my energy bill go?
• Heating & hot water
• Appliances in the home
• Draughtproofing & ventilation
• Windows and doors
• Insulation to loft, walls, floors
• Whole house ‘retrofitting’
• BWCE’s Home Energy Service
