Hello and welcome to languages United grammar point of the week. Today we're going to be looking at the present perfect continuous.

We can use the present perfect continuous to talk about unfinished actions for example:

He's been working here since April.

We can also use the present perfect to describe recently finished actions for example:

Have you been crying?

If we look at the examples we can see that the present perfect continuous is made from two auxiliary verbs and a main verb. The first auxiliary verb is has or have, the second auxiliary verb is be in the past participle form been and then the main verb is a verb in the ing form. So we have has or have been + verb in the ing form.

If we have a look at this timeline we can see that the present perfect continuous starts in the past and is continuing up to now and may continue into the future. So to recap, the present perfect continuous is used to describe unfinished actions or actions that have recently finished it's made from the first auxiliary has or have plus been + verb in the ing form.

Thank you very much for watching and hope to see you next week on languages United grammar point of the week.
