Foodie Friday is back! For this week, our French intern Valentin cooked a regional French cake called “Gateau Breton”.
The name of the dish is synonymous with the area it hails from, Brittany. It’s a cross between a cake and a biscuit: dense, moist and utterly delicious. It is made of flour, salted butter, eggs and sugar.
Ingredients
- 300 grams flour
- 200 grams sugar
- 250 grams salted butter (softened)
- 6 eggs
Recipe
- Preheat the oven to gas mark 5/6, fan 170°C.
- Mix the 6 egg yolks and sugar in a bowl until the mixture is a pale yellow colour. Then add the flour and the softened butter and mix it all together.
- Put the mixture in a buttered mould. Smooth the top with a spoon.
- Glaze the cake by applying egg yolk with a pastry brush and use a fork to make strokes on the cake.
- Bake for 30 minutes in a low oven
- Enjoy with family or friends!
